On my recent trip to Vietnam, I came across a fruit named Artichoke. It is widely grown in the central region of Vietnam in Dalat. This fruit is used in soups, pickles, meat dishes, desserts, and in many other forms. One very common and popular use of artichokes is to make tea. It is known to be a refreshing and energizing drink.
How is Artichoke Tea Made?
It is made with dried leaves, roots, and fruit of the Artichoke plant. Or either way, you can also make it by steeping the fresh leaf, root, and fruit. You can make your tea or buy readymade tea bags.
Benefits of Artichoke Tea:
Artichoke is known to be a powerhouse of nutrients as it is high in fiber, B-complex vitamins, folate, iron, magnesium, and potassium. Here are a few benefits of drinking artichoke tea regularly:
- Can help boost immunity.
The antioxidants and other phytonutrients in artichoke tea may help your immune system fight off illness, as well as protect against free radicals. Antioxidants in artichoke tea may also help improve overall health by reducing inflammation and oxidative stress. Studies show that people who drink artichoke tea regularly have lower levels of inflammation than those who don’t drink it.
- Can help relieve Anxiety.
Drinking this tea is beneficial for people who experience anxiety because it contains compounds such as flavanones, catechins, and phenols which have been shown to reduce stress levels by increasing dopamine levels in the brain and lowering cortisol levels
- Anti-inflammatory properties
Artichoke leaves contain high levels of fiber and flavonoids that help to fight inflammation caused by free radicals.
- Anti-aging properties
Artichokes contain antioxidants called cynarin that protect against aging and cell damage. They also have antiestrogenic properties that can help prevent cancer growth from spreading throughout the body.
Side effects of drinking Artichoke Tea
Along with the benefits, some side effects should be noted before drinking this beverage:
Artichoke contains a chemical called cynaroside which is absorbed into the body through food and drinks. This can cause diarrhea in some people if they consume too much at once or if they are sensitive to it. You should only drink small amounts of artichoke tea at one time as it can cause discomfort if you overdo it.
If you have severe kidney problems or diabetes, you should consult your doctor before drinking any type of herbal tea such as this one since it could affect your health adversely if you have these conditions
