All About Ceylon Tea

Ceylon tea is a world-renowned tea variety that is grown and produced in the beautiful island nation of Sri Lanka. It is known for its unique taste, aroma, and health benefits. In this blog post, we will explore the history of Ceylon tea, how it is produced, its benefits, and how to brew it.

History of Ceylon Tea

Tea was first introduced to Sri Lanka by the British in the early 19th century. The British were looking for an alternative to Chinese tea, which was expensive and difficult to obtain. They saw the potential in Sri Lanka’s climate and soil, which were ideal for growing tea. The first tea plantations were established in 1867, and by the end of the 19th century, Ceylon tea had become a major export for Sri Lanka.

The name “Ceylon” is the former name of Sri Lanka, which was changed in 1972. The tea is made from the leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant, which is native to China and India. The tea is known for its bright, golden color and its crisp, refreshing taste.

How is Ceylon tea produced?

Ceylon tea is produced using a traditional method of tea production that has been passed down for generations in Sri Lanka. The tea is grown in the highlands of Sri Lanka, where the climate is cool and the soil is rich in nutrients. The tea leaves are hand-picked by skilled workers who carefully select only the best leaves for production.

Once the leaves are picked, they are withered and rolled to release their natural oils and flavors. The leaves are then oxidized, which gives them their unique taste and aroma. Finally, the leaves are dried and sorted into different grades based on their quality.

3. Lowers cholesterol: Ceylon tea has been shown to lower LDL cholesterol levels, which can help reduce the risk of heart disease.

4. Improves digestion: Ceylon tea can help improve digestion and reduce bloating and other digestive issues.

How to brew Ceylon tea?

Brewing Ceylon tea is easy and can be done in just a few simple steps. Here’s how to do it:

1. Boil water: Start by boiling water in a kettle or pot.

2. Add tea: Place a tea bag or loose tea leaves in a teapot or mug.

3. Pour water: Pour the hot water over the tea and let it steep for 3-5 minutes.

4. Enjoy: Remove the tea bag or strain the leaves and enjoy your delicious cup of Ceylon tea.

How many cups of Ceylon tea can be consumed in a day?

While Ceylon tea is generally safe to drink, it does contain caffeine, so it’s important to consume it in moderation. It’s recommended that you limit your intake to no more than 1-2 cups per day.

In conclusion, Ceylon tea is a delicious and healthy beverage that has been enjoyed for generations in Sri Lanka and around the world. With its unique taste, aroma, and health benefits, it’s no wonder that Ceylon tea is a favorite among tea lovers everywhere. So why not brew yourself a cup today and experience the magic of Ceylon tea for yourself?

Masala Chai is amongst the most liked teas in Indi Masala Chai is amongst the most liked teas in Indian houses. During monsoon and winter, masala chai tastes even better because of the punch of spices and aroma.

I tried Masala Chai from @danke.tea.foods, and here's my review.

Aroma: Typically, masala chais have a prominent aroma which easily helps one identify the spices in it. Most of these teas may have a spice that may dominate and make or break your entire tea drinking experience. One good thing about Danke Tea Masala Chai is, it has a very balanced aroma of spices.

Ingredients in @danke.tea.foods Masala Tea : Assam CTC Black Leaf Tea, Cinnamon, Black Pepper, Cardamom, Clove, Nutmeg & Dried Ginger.

Color: On brewing, the tea has not very dark color. If you like a dark color of tea, you will have to add more tea leaves and brew for a lesser duration.

Taste: It has the right kick of spices and a sweet finish that will make you crave for more.

Cost: They have packaging of 250gms available on their website which costs 155 Rs i.e. 620 Rs for a kg. As compared to other brands, the cost is quite decent and affordable.

All in all, @danke.tea.foods masala chai is a delightful, spicy and warm cup of tea perfect for the cold days.
